A nearly continuous display of dark-eyed 3-4" wide dark golden yellow daisies are held above the rosettes of deep green foliage throughout summer attracting bees and a variety of other garden beneficials. Glitters Like Gold Black-Eyed Susan is a hybrid Rudbeckia boasting improved vigor, longer flowering, and resistance to leaf spot as compared to the longtime favorite Goldstrum. This easy sunloving clump-forming perennial grows to 30-36"H x 18"W and the ripened seedheads provide fodder for songbirds in fall and winter. The clusters of purple to purplish-pink 3" wide trumpet shaped flowers with a nicely contrasting white ring surrounding the yellow throats that are lined with fine magenta lines that guide large bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds to the nectar and pollen reward inside. The Glowvine, Bignonia magnifica, is a highly desireable, exceptionally free flowering, naturally evergreen tropical vine with unusual pairs of oval leaflets that are centered by its grasping tendrils. Once mature, these easy to grow vigorous vines can flower continuously throughout the year under warm tropical conditions. The Glowvine (a.k.a. You can grow this award winning Bluebeard for its foliage alone! The new bright yellow spring foliage retains its color throughout the growing season even in the hot and humid south. In late summer and fall, dense whorled clusters of deep violet-blue, nectar rich, tubular flowers are held above and among the wonderfully contrasting foliage. Gold Crest Bluebeard, a Caryopteris hybrid, was selected for its heat tolerant brilliant foliage, for its dense compact habit, and its pollinator attracting flowers. In zone 6 Bluebeard tends to act more like a clump forming die-back perennial and becomes more shrub-like where winters are milder, although, it benefits from a hard late winter or early spring pruning since it flowers on new growth. Somewhat drought resistant once well-established and prefers a sunny site in a well-drained soil for optimum vigor and flowering. Flat topped clusters composed of numerous tiny, golden yellow flowers atop sturdy stems in mid to late spring to summer attracting a host of smaller pollinators. Golden Alexanders, Zizea aurea, is a native, clump forming, herbaceous perennial with deep green foliage growing to about 2-3' high. The deep green, glossy, lobed foliage is utilized by the Eastern Black and Ozark Swallowtail caterpillars and the ripened seed heads are utilized by songbirds. It is native throughout much of the central and eastern US in moist woodlands, roadsides, meadows, and prairies. 3" wide golden yellow trumpet shaped flowers are held against a foil of glossy, deep green foliage are produced from spring to fall to potentially year-round on mature plants attracting butterflies, bees, and other pollinators. The Golden Butterfly Allamanda, a selection of Allamanda cathartica, is a compact form of this naturally evergreen, tropical, scandent shrub growing to 2-3' high and wide making it the perfect choice for a tropical specimen container plant and can also be enjoyed in hanging baskets and sunny window boxes. The key to success with Allandas is an average moist, fertile, well-draining soil, that should be allowed to become semi-dry between waterings, and a warm to hot, full sun to part sun site. Dense pyramidal shaped clusters composed of hundreds of small bright golden yellow flowers are produced atop short sturdy 18-24" high stems in mid to late summer well into fall attracting a variety of pollinators. Golden Fleece Autumn or Heart-Leaved Goldenrod, a selection of Solidago sphacelata, is a compact rhizomatous perennial adorned with heart-shaped foliage that makes an easy and informal groundcover eventually spreading to about 30" wide in 3-5 years. Discovered as a chance seedling in an Eden, North Carolina garden and introduced by Richard Lighty of  Mt. Cuba Center in 1985. It won the 1994 Internationale Stauden-Union’s Award for an outstanding new plant in Switzerland. Golden Fleece was also one of the few 4 out of 4-star rated cultivars in the 2000 Chicago Botanic Gardens trials and proved to have excellent resistance to both rust and powdery mildew. Clusters of bright golden yellow upward facing daisies sit atop sturdy stems and emerge from rosettes of finely cut medium green foliage in early(8B) to midspring(6), depending on your cold hardiness zone. The flowers attract bees and other pollinators. Golden Groundsel is rhizomatous native perennial that readily develops into a groundcover and is tolerant of moist shaded conditions as well as in rain gardens, at the edges of ponds or other perennial water sources, or use it in naturalistic settings, roadsides, meadows and prairies. For optimum vigor this winter growing perennial prefers a consistently moist soil but can tolerate average moisture where it receives more shade. Item# 11803

10" golden yellow flowers that resemble a lotus when first opening, sit atop nearly leafless thick sturdy stems and last for months on mature plants. When young the plants look just like dwarf bananas with long rounded medium-green tropical foliage. This is tough, hardy, and easily grown, tightly clump forming rhizomatous tropical. After flowering is finished the mature plant produces a multitude of pups and then dies making way for the young plants which should flower in their 2nd or 3rd year. Item# 9578.

The dark colored spikes and calyxes are adorned with 1" long, deep magenta-purple, two-lipped tubular flowers that are set against a backdrop of contrasting golden to chartreuse spring foliage. The brightly colored, nectar rich flowers are sure to draw hummingbirds as well as bees and the occassional butterfly. Golden Rosiene Salvia or Jame Sage, a hybrid selection grouped with Salvia x jamensis but with quilted foliage similar to Littleleaf Sage, is a compact perennial Salvia growing to about 12-16" high and with unique yellow and chartreuse, quilted, fragrant foliage that may deepen into green tones as summer arrives. The fragrant foliage may be evergreen in mild winter climates and plants are reported to be hardy into zone 7. Provide this tough perennial Salvia with a well-drained, fertile soil with average moisture, although, fully established plants are somewhat drought resistant the plants will flower best where they have at least some moisture available during the growing season. Bright cherry pink, medium-sized, trumpet-shaped, single to semi-double flowers with a boss of gold-tipped white stamens are held against a nicely contrasting foil of deep green and gold foliage. Flowering occurs in mid to late season, January to March, attracting bees and other pollinators on warmer days. Golden Spangles Camellia, a Camellia x williamsii hybrid, is a medium to large, evergreen shrub with a slow to moderate rate of growth and an upright to rounded habit growing to about 6-8'H x 3-4'W. This Camellia is truly a shrub for all seasons with its deep dark green, medium to fine-textured, glossy, Sasanqua-like foliage that is consistently heavily variegated with gold, yellow, and chartreuse along the central veins, a rarely seen trait among Camellias. Use this medium to large evergreen shrub as a specimen in the garden and landscape or as a container plant. Camellias prefer a moist to average moist, well-drained, loamy to sandy, acidic soil with a deep organic mulch. Item# 13476

Large clusters of brilliant golden yellow 3" long trumpet shaped flowers are produced most heavily in early to midspring and may be produced sporadically during the growing season. The nectar rich flowers are produced during its short deciduous period to better show them off while attracting a variety of pollinators including hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees. The Golden Trumpet Tree, previously Tabebuia chrysotricha and now classified as Handroanthus chrysotrichus, is a highly sought after, relatively fast growing, small to medium sized, short term deciduous, tropical tree that develops a naturally rounded crown at maturity growing to about 25-35'H and nearly as wide. This is a good choice as a street tree, small lawn tree, or for lightly shading a pool or patio. Pollinated flowers produce long, curving brown fuzzy seed pods. The Tabebuia prefers a well-drained, moderately fertile, average moist soil in a full to mostly sunny site for optimum vigor and flowering. Item# 9678

Large, double to triple flowered or more, intensely fragrant, long lasting flowers open a soft primrose yellow and age to a golden yellow to near orange. Goldflame's rich perfume lasts into the morning and is sure to turn heads and attract the local hummingbird moth population! Medium-sized, formal double flowers are pale pink blushing to white at the outer edges and may or may not show darker pink variegation with flowering occurring in mid to late season, January to April. Green, gold, and cream colored variegated foliage adds pink and orange tones with new spring growth that adorns the reddish to bronze young stems. Mature plants can produce clusters of small, fragrant, white, tea-olive like flowers on the previous year's growth in fall attracting a variety of pollinators on warmer days. The Goshiki Holly Leaf Tea Olive, a selection of Osmanthus heterophyllus, is a densely branching, slow growing, evergreen shrub growing to about 4-5' high and 3-4' wide in about 5 years and potentially to 10' high and 8' feet in 10 or more years, but can be kept smaller with pruning. The colorful, glossy, medium-textured, holly-like foliage will have the most intense colors and plants will be most apt to flower in sunnier conditions, although, the plants are fairly shade tolerant. Strongly fragrant, long-lasting, very double, 1.5", white blooms never seem to let you down when you are looking for something fragrant in the garden or greenhouse during the warmer months. Deep green glossy foliage on a twining vine-like or scrambling shrub to 8' or can easily be pruned to keep it smaller and fuller. From spring to frost, the masses of rounded flower clusters open a deep golden yellow and quickly deepen into orange and near red shades attracting bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. Grandpa's Pumpkin Patch Lantana is a vigorous, bush type Lantana with excellent flower power and growing to about 3-4' high and 4-5' wide by the end of the growing season. Selected and introduced by Texas Horticulturist Greg Grant and one of our favorite large type Lantanas. The small to medium-sized single flowers can range from red tinged to lavender often with purple veining and are centered by a large boss of contrasting yellow tipped white filaments and are produced in mid to late season or February to April. Flower color tends to be the most purple where soils are strongly acidic and this seems to be fairly common for purple flowered Camellias. Grape Soda Camellia, a Nuccio's Nurseries introduction, is a moderately vigorous plant developing into an upright to rounded medium to large evergreen shrub with a slightly open habit. Provide Camellias with a fertile soil rich in organic matter, with average moisture, and an organic mulch.
