Loose panicles composed of 1" long, white to pale pink to near lavender flowers with a golden 'beard' and purple bee guides are produced in mid to late spring on sturdy 18-24" stems attracting mainly bees and hummingbirds as well as occasional butterflies. Nodding Beardtongue, Penstemon laxiflorus, is a rosette to small clump forming, herbaceous, drought resistant perennial typically found growing in well-draining, sunny, upland sites in the Pineywoods, as well as tall grass prairies, and open sandy and rocky woodlands. While it is drought resistant it does seem to prefer average moisture during the growing season. May reseed on exposed soils. Provide Nodding Penstemon with a full to mostly sunny site in well-drained soils for optimum vigor and flowering. Makes an easy addition to naturalistic settings like roadsides, prairies, and meadows. Item# 9743

Clusters of 2-3" wide, widely flaring, 4-petalled, primrose yellow flowers are produced in late spring and early summer and are held against a foil of rich green foliage. Northern Sundrops, a selection of our native Oenothera fruticosa ssp. tetragona or sometimes just O. tetragona, is a tough and easy clump forming to short-rhizomatous, herbaceous perennial growing to 2-3' high and potentially to 5'. It is well suited to sunny, average moist to moist, average to well-drained sites. Unlike many of the Evening Primroses, Sundrop flowers are open during the day providing nectar and pollen to a variety of bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. Item# 13334

Double white flowers with a boss of yellow stamens adorn this easy to grow shrub in spring. One of the earliest large flowering Japonica Camellias to begin flowering, October Affair produces an abundance of perfectly formed, 3-4" wide, fully double flowers with cupped petals that are pure white at their center but with the outer rows of petals becoming tipped in light to rosy pink. Masses of 1" wide yellow-eyed bluish purple daisies absolutely cover this plant for weeks in late summer and fall. October Skies Aromatic Aster, a selection of Symphyotrichum oblongifolium, is a low mounding perennial that develops into a compact shrub-like plant by flowering time. Shades of red, burnt orange, golden yellow, and green are randomly splashed across the glossy evergreen foliage of this durable groundcover. Ogon Nishiki Asiatic Jasmine, a.k.a. Salsa, Summer Sunset, and Golden Brocade, creates a fiery splash of color anywhere in the garden or spilling from containers, over walls, or even from hanging baskets. Trachelospermum asiaticum is a naturally evergreen, 6-12" high groundcover to small twining vine that can produce creamy yellow fragrant flowers similar to Confederate or Star Jasmine, Trachelospermum jasminoides, when grown as a vine or when allowed to trail from hanging baskets and over retaining walls, though it is generally infrequent and is the exception rather than the rule. Few plants can compete with the disposition of this dense groundcover once it is fully established in the landscape making it an easy and reliable choice for landscapers and tough to garden in areas, like beneath trees, where few other plants can thrive or in parking lot islands. It is heat loving, both sun and shade tolerant, deer and rabbit resistant, and has few pest or disease issues particularly when grown in soil with average or better drainage. For the best and brightest foliage coloration some direct sunlight during the day is beneficial and the more the better. Probably best suited to zones 8 and warmer for inground plantings but it can be used as a groundcover in containers beneath larger plants. Item# 941
