Illinois Everbearing Black Mulberry

Morus x 'Illinois Everbearing' (M. alba x M. rubra)

Large, 1-2" long x 3/8-1/2" diameter, shiny black mulberries with a very sweet flavor are produced in spring and are basically seedless. Fruit can be eaten fresh as well as to make jelly, jams, and even wine. The Illinois Everbearing Mulberry, a highly popular hybrid of Morus alba and the native M. rubra, reliably produces large crops at a young age and is self-pollinating. These are fast growing, medium sized trees with a natural umbrella to rounded shaped mature habit to 30-40' high and wide. Songbirds love the ripe fruit and waves of Cedar Waxwings come through annually to feast on them. Mulberries make an easy and low maintenance fruit tree for homes and gardens. These are cuttings grown from our own tree. Ilwang Dwarf Golden Variegated Korean Forsythia, Green Stem Forsythia

Forsythia viridissima var koreana 'Ilwang'

The bare winter stems are adorned with bright sunny yellow flowers in late winter and early spring attracting mainly bees as pollinators. Once the flowering season is finished this beautiful shrub is adorned with gold, yellow and deep green variegated foliage providing color until autumn when the foliage takes on purple tones until it falls away. The Dwarf Golden Variegated Korean Forsythia was first shared with us by the late great nurseryman Sherwood Aikens of Minden, Louisiana and after much research we believe this to be Forsythia viridissima var. koreana 'Ilwang'. We have also selected the cultivar Solid Gold with solid yellow foliage. This is an easy to grow, low maintenance, compact growing deciduous shrub with an arching, fountaining habit growing wider than tall and maxing out at about 3'H x 3-4'W. Its golden foliage can tolerate full sun but may lighten to cream and yellow but this does not appear to affect the plant's vigor it. Provide a fertile soil with average or better drainage and average moisture. Incense Passionflower, Passionvine

Passiflora x 'Incense'

The deep purple 3-4", richly fragrant exotic looking flowers are produced throughout the growing season on this vigorous Passionvine with medium green foliage. Incense is considered to be one of the hardiest passionvines for US gardens along with the native Maypop Passionvine, Passiflora incarnata, one of its parents, and the US native Yellow Passionvine, Passiflora lutea. In our experience Incense rarely produces fruit on its own and some sources suggest that hand pollination is required. Like the native Maypop Passionflower, Incense readily spreads by rhizomes. Caterpillar host: Gulf Fritillary, Julia Butterfly, Variegated Fritillary, and Zebra Longwing. Click on "More Details and Growing Info" or the image to learn more about growing Passionvines as perennials in containers or in the garden and landscape. Item # 464.

In summer arching spikes of showy green, flattened seed heads, reminiscent of fish hanging on a fishing pole, are produced which eventually fade to tan and remain showy until late winter or early spring. The seed heads flutter even in the slightest of breezes providing motion and interest for months. One of our most recognizable, useful, and adaptable native grasses, Inland Sea Oats, Chasmanthium latifolium, is a deciduous, small to medium-sized perennial that readily develops into a groundcover via both rhizomes and seed. Its shade and moisture tolerance lend it to use as a tallish groundcover in both full sun to lightly shaded, wet to average moist, naturalistic garden and landscape settings. The decorative seedheads are used both fresh and dried in cut flower arrangements and the foliage is utilized by the Northern Pearly-Eye, Salt and Pepper Skipper, Bell's Roadside Skipper, and the Bronzed Roadside Skipper butterflies. This rhizomatous native grass is widely distributed throughout the central and eastern US from near central and eastern Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas to Illinois, Indiana, and Pennsylvannia. Tough, adaptable, provides late summer, fall, and winter color, and it's deer resistant. Item# 13108

Clusters of starry, pure white flowers with red-purple 'eyes' may be produced throughout the year on well grown, well-established plants and are likely to attract hummingbird moths with their light perfume. Iris Marie Hoya, a hybrid cultivar, is a scandent shrub-like tropical that produces upright stems that eventually arch once they are too large and heavy for the stems to maintain upright or they can be trained to a support. The large ovate deep green glossy foliage is pretty enough on its own to make this easy and vigorous Hoya a worthy house plant. Provide a fertile, well-drained, quality cactus-mix like soil allowing the soil to become somewhat dry between waterings. High indirect light is optimum but some cool direct sunlight may be required especially in more northerly latitudes to induce flowering. Item# 12686
