Ocean-Blue Morning Glory, Blue Morning Glory, Blue Dawnflower, Island Morning Glory
Ipomoea indica, I. acuminata, Pharbitis cathartica
Intense sapphire blue, 3-4" widely flaring flowers with dark purple stripes open in the morning and lighten to azure as the day wears on and finally fade to fuchsia pink in the afternoon. The Blue Dawnflower or Blue Morning Glory is a tender perennial Morning Glory that flowers from spring to fall on a vigorous climbing herbaceous vine that spreads and roots readily anywhere the runners touch the ground. Easily grown on a trellis or fence but will also happily climb into large hedges as well.
