A broad stripe of contrasting sunny yellow runs down the center of each of the blue-green to green sword-shaped leaves creating a year round splash of color adding red, pink, and purple tinges in winter. Color Guard Yucca is a selection of the native Yucca filamentosa, or Adam's Needle, and develops into a low rounded mass of evergreen foliage on a deer, heat, and drought resistant plant eventually reaching about 2'H x 3'W. It may eventually produce small offsets colonizing the area under good conditions. This tough as nails plant makes a colorful, low-maintenance, reliable, evergreen addition to the garden and landscape and can also be used to good effect as low-maintenance and forgiving container specimens. Common Evening Primrose

Oenothera biennis

Small clusters of large 4-petaled sunny yellow flowers are lightly fragrant and open in the evening to attract pollinating moths and may last until about noon the following day when they attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. Ripe seeds are utilized by songbirds. Common Evening Primrose is a tall growing tap-rooted native biennial species found throughout most of the lower 48 states and into Canada. It is common in disturbed areas, meadows and prairies. The first year it produces a rosette of foliage and the second year it shoots up to 3-6' high and begins flowering in summer and may continue into fall under good conditions. The Common Evening Primrose will readily reseed on exposed soils. It is a good addition to naturilized areas or add it to the Moon Moth Garden. Item# 11761

Huge rosettes of extremely soft fuzzy evergreen gray-green foliage subtends the tall spikes of yellow flowers in summer. Considered to be one of the very first plants introduced into the US and was used herbally by Native American Indians and settlers as well as in its homeland of Europe, Asia, and Africa. Item# 9950.

Grows To: 18-24"W x 4-6
Outdoor Light: Full sun, Part sun

The dense flat-topped flower clusters are composed of numerous small, white and creamy white flowers and are produced between late spring and potentially into fall atop 24-36" high stems that attract a wide variety of mainly smaller pollinators. Common Yarrow, Achillea millefolium, is a rhizomatous, evergreen, heirloom perennial with fine textured fennel-like, rich medium green, fragrant anise-scented foliage and quickly spreads to create a seemingly weed proof groundcover. It is typically regarded as a poor choice for gardens due to its rambunctious nature but makes an easy addition to naturalistic plantings like meadows, prairies, and roadsides as well as a lawn replacement and a tough and low maintenance groundcover for difficult sites like parking lot islands, provided they have good drainage. It also makes an easy and low maintenance container plant. Provide Common Yarrow with a full to mostly sunny site in lean, mineral soils, like sandy loams, with excellent drainage. Once fully established the plants need little if any maintenance, although, it is said that deadheading the flowers will help to promote repeat flowering from the lower flower stem nodes and to help limit its spread. Constance Elliot Passion Flower, Passion Vine

Passiflora caerulea 'Constance Elliot'

An old and reliable favorite, Constance Elliot Passion Flower produces solid white flowers that shine brightly against the deep green to blue-green foliage.  This is a vigorous growing tropical vine and can easily reach 20' once well-established. This is also one of the most reliably cold hardy Passionvines with foliage remaining evergreen in the mildest 8B winters but dying back to the ground in severe winters and returning readily in spring. The pure white Constance Elliot Passionflower may spread somewhat by rhizomes but it is generally much more tame than the Maypop. Cross pollination may produce tropical tasting tangy fruit that surrounds the dark seeds inside. Coontie Palm, Florida Arrowroot, Koonti, Wild Sago

Zamia integrifolia, Z. pumila

The stiff ferny fronds are adorned with numerous thick leathery medium to deep green leaflets often with a bronze tinge and emerge from what becomes an underground trunk. The Coontie, Zamia integrifolia (a.k.a Z. pumila), is a small tough southeastern native Cycad that eventually develops an underground trunk that will branch with age creating a dense 24-36" high cover of the soft to medium textured fronds. It is resistant to drought, tolerates high heat and humidity, sun or shade, and is a very low maintainence addition to the landscape. In areas that experience hard freezes, like zone 8, the foliage may freeze back but a new flush readily returns in spring. Makes an easy bonsai and a low maintenance container plant. Item# 12729

Copper Iris

Iris fulva 'Green II'

Coppery colored falls and standards are overlaid with darker colored veining and lighten toward their bases and are produced in early to midsesaon on sturdy 18-24" high stalks. The red toned flowers are hummingbird pollinated where most other species of the Louisiana Iris group are pollinated by larger bees. The Copper Iris, Iris fulva, is smaller in all regards to most Louisiana Iris species and cultivars in that it produces 3-4" wide flowers with drooping petals, the rhizomes are consistently in the 3/4" diameter range, the foliage is typically less than 1" wide, and the plants top out at around 18-24" high. The Copper Iris is most commonly found in the southern half of the Mississippi River basin and along the Louisiana portion of the Red River in consistently wet to moist areas but not submerged. It has been used widely to develop red flowering crosses and is a parent of Nelson's Louisiana Iris, a.k.a. the Abbeyville Red Iris. Like the Louisiana Irises, the Copper Iris is an easy and adaptable, rhizomatous perennial with fans of medium green, narrow sword-like foliage and seems as at home near standing water as they do in average moist garden soils. Remember that these plants do most of their growing in fall and winter and so this is when they should be fed and fall is also a great time to divide plants if desired. Provide a full to mostly sunny site for optimum vigor and flowering. Item# 13044
