Huge, 3-5" long mulberries, with a raspberry-like flavor. Mulberries are typically fast growing, medium sized trees with a natural umbrella shaped mature habit to 30' high and wide. These are  grown from cuttings from our own tree. We  have a few ready for spring.  Item # 854.

1", sleepy, rose to coral-pink flowers are borne from late spring to fall on this vigorous perennial. Tough, easy, and great for hummingbirds and occasional butterflies. Pam Puryear's Pink Turkscap is a still relatively new introduction from the great Texas plantsman Greg Grant and was named after his friend and the 'Rose Rustler' founder Pam Puryear. This Turk's Cap has won the prestigious Lynn Lowery Award from the Native Plant Society of Texas! Small clusters of unusual looking, funnel-shaped deep red flowers are tipped with contrasting white and green with the insides of the flowers being streaked and flecked with brown. The flowers are produced in early to midsummer atop 2-3' high stems and attract hummingbirds and other pollinators. The Parrot Lily, Alstroemeria psittacina, is an old pass-a-long heirloom perennial whose rhizomatous habit may be too aggressive for most garden settings but in the right location it makes an easy and rewarding informal groundcover. Alstroemerias prefer an average moist, fertile, well-drained soil and tend to be sturdiest where they receive atleast 4 hours of direct sunlight. *Where summers are hot, consider providing shade or filtered shade during the hottest part of the day. These also serve as long-lasting and popular fresh cut flowers. Item# 12831

In early spring to early summer, pairs of starry, four-petaled, tubular fuzzy white flowers are produced atop the deep green foliage and are followed by 1/4-3/8" diameter, glossy, bright red berries. The flowers are a standout against the deep green foliage and are likely to attract pollinating moths, like Sphinx and Hummingbird Moths, as well as smaller pollinators like bees and potentially butterflies. The fruit is consumed by a variety of wildlife like Quail, Dove, Wild Turkey, songbirds, and small mammals. The Partridgeberry or Twinberry, Mitchella repens, is a low growing, slow-ish growing and thus non-aggressive, shade tolerant, native, evergreen, woody groundcover native to all states east of the Mississippi River and those abutting it, as far west as East Texas, as far south as South-Central Florida, and as far north as Eastern Minnesota, Maine, and into Canada. We normally see it on average moist to moist, often sandy soils and in shaded to partly shade areas where it has minimal competition. The Partridgeberry is considered tolerant of periodically dry-ish shade once well established. Provide a shaded, average moist, acidic, average to well-drained soil for optimum vigor and flowering. The bright deep pink flushes of holly-like new foliage and stems slowly matures to pastel pink, yellow, and ultimately a dark green. Party Lights™ Holly Leaf Tea Olive is one of the hardiest selections of Osmanthus and produces small white fragrant flowers in fall but it is mainly grown for its outstanding foliage color in the garden and landscape and has a nice dense well-branching habit that is sure to make a statement. This is a hardy evergreen shrub that will have the densest habit and brightest colors in full to mostly sunny conditions. Dense clusters of sweetly fragrant, small white flowers seemingly cover the stems completely in late fall on the upper 1/3 to 1/2 of the plant for an extended period and may attract bees and occasional butterflies on warmer days. The Princess™ Holly Leaf Tea Olive, or Osmanthus heterophyllus 'Kaori Hime', is a densely branching, dwarf evergreen shrub cloaked in fine to medium textured holly like foliage with an upright to vase-shaped habit that can grow to 3-6' high a 2-3' wide at maturity but can easily be kept on the smaller side with minimal pruning. Use this dwarf Tea Olive as a specimen or accent in the ground or in containers, as a small low maintenance hedge, or its small and compact size lends it to use as a Bonsai specimen as well. Provide a well-drained, average moist, fertile soil for optimum health and flowering although it is fairly adaptable to soil types. Possibly the brightest colored trailing Lantana on the market and both our staff and our pollinators have totally fallen in love with it! The rounded flower clusters open a deep orange-yellow, deepen through orange tones, and mature to deep fuchsia attracting a variety of bees, butterflies, and other garden beneficials throughout the growing season. 3-5" green-yellow fruit with banana custard-like flavor, some say they are best after being frozen. Produces fragrant purple flowers in spring. A small native, normally understory tree, and is the caterpillar host plant of the Zebra Swallowtail Butterfly. Large 3" wide, deep blue, cornflower-like daisies are produced on sturdy stalks starting in late spring and lasting through much of summer on well established clumps. Peachies Pick is a dense clump forming and exceptionally long flowering selection of the Stokesia Daisy. Its dense compact habit make this the perfect Stokes Aster for gardens and landscapes. Light lavender to white 1" blooms are borne at the base of the deep green rounded leaves. The Peacock Ginger is very low growing and compact ginger blooming continuously through summer. It can be grown in a shady garden where hardy or it makes an easy, low maintenance container plant for shaded porches and patios. The foliage of the Peacock Ginger goes dormant at the first sign of cool weather and during winter and re-emerges in spring once the ground temperatures have warmed. A true survivor, this thorn-less to nearly thorn-less, floriferous climber survived 20' of saltwater for 2 weeks after Hurricane Katrina in its namesake's garden in New Orleans! Peggy Martin Rose absolutely covers itself in large clusters of loosely double 2" pink flowers with a lavender overtone from in mid to late spring and again in late summer and fall on mature established plants. This old-fashioned type rambling rose can produce canes up to 15' long and can be utilized on a sturdy arbor, trellis, or post providing vertical color. Penny Mac is a 2012 Louisiana Super Plant! This repeat blooming Hydrangea produces large Mopheads of pink or blue beginning in late spring and will continue to bloom on new growth into the summer and fall. The huge white flowers of Peppermint Flare are randomly speckled and lightly striped with purplish pink. This hardy perennial Hibiscus is sure to be a conversation piece! This nearly sterile hybrid produces a continuous display of huge flowers, has excellent vigor, and pest resistant foliage. This root hardy die-back perennial has a compact 4-6' x 4-6' habit and is tolerant of soil moisture levels ranging from average to wet. The Flare Series Hibiscus were developed near San Antonio so in the the words of Heidi Sheesley they are 'Texas tough' as well as big and beautiful! Caterpillar host: Gray hairstreak. Item# 11171

The fleshy deep green to reddish green 1/2" diameter, 4-5 angled, branched stems are adorned with small spikey thorns that produces 3-5" wide pale yellow to near white starry flowers that are overlaid with intricate burgundy and dark burgundy variegation reminiscent of a Persian carpet. It can flower any time of year and multiple times per year once fully mature and under good conditions. Like Stapeliads, this plant is pollinated by flies and has a rotten carrion like odor to attract them but you may have to put your nose in the flower to notice it as it does not seem to permeate the air. The Persian Carpet Flower, Edithcolea grandis newly reclassified as Ceropegia sordida, is an evergreen herbaceous succulent from tropical Africa that can build to 4-8"H x 12"W and is typically found growing in partially shaded to occassionally full sun conditions in dry desert-like regions. Its main requirements are soils with excellent drainage and warm temperatures, preferably not below about 60^oF. The Persian Carpet Flower should make an easy summer porch or patio plant or even as a hanging basket where it receives at least some direct sunlight during the day to promote flowering. It can tolerate slightly more moisture when in active growth but should still be allowed to become moderately dry between waterings. Reduce watering in winter, especially if grown under cool conditions. These are well-established young plants that are already branching. Item# 12457

3-4" high Shrimp Plant-like, square-shaped spikes of brilliant red bracts from between which emerge red-orange, curving tubular flowers with recurving petals and are produced mainly in winter into early spring. The Peruvina Wild Petunia or Lobster Claw, Ruellia chartacea, is a shrubby, naturally evergreen, tropical plant with medium-sized, glossy, deep green foliage and grows to 3-6'H x 3-4'W but can be maintained smaller with pruning. This is the only known Ruellia species with such showy bracts and they can provide color for months. Provide bright indirect sunlight, filtered shade, to cool sunlight like early or very late in the day. The Peruvian Wild Petunia will prefer an average moist, well-drained, fertile soil for optimum vigor and flowering. Item# 12926

Spikes of long drooping fragrant white flowers are produced in late spring and early summer that are excellent for pollinators like bees. Peter's Peach Creek Virginia Sweetspire was selected by Peter Loos for its longer flowering season and its nearly evergreen foliage that can turn fiery shades of yellow, orange, and red in especially cold winters. This selection originates from the southwestern most portion of this easy to grow native shrub's range. This unusual hybrid was discovered by noted plantsman Peter Loos and is a wonderful garden plant where the butterflies flock to its nectar rich flowers.  Peter's Purple Monarda has an upright and bushy growth habit yet it refuses to flop. 3" wide creamy white flowers with a burgundy eye are produced from summer to fall on an upright growing perennial with small, trilobed, rich green foliage. The Pineland Hibiscus or Comfortroot is an uncommon native perennial Hibiscus found at the edge of pine forests, along rivers, and streams. It is not always long lived (3-6 years typically) but is certainly a worthy component of wildflower gardens, meadows, other natural settings, and near the back of the garden or landscape.
