C.M. Hovey Camellia, Colonel Firey Camellia
Camellia japonica 'C.M. Hovey'
This RHS Award of Garden Merit selection produces medium sized, perfect or rose form flowers of a rich deep cherry red ranging into deep fuchsia and are produced in mid to late season or February to April. C.M. Hovey Camellia is a large flowered Japonica with a densely branching, upright and somewhat narrow habit maturing into an 8-10' high by 3-5' wide large evergreen shrub cloaked in glossy deep green foliage. This is an heirloom Camellia developed by and is the namesake of the early Boston nurseryman. It has been popular since its introduction in the mid 1800's and has garnered many names over the years like Colonel Firey. Its slightly smaller and upright stature lend it to use as a specimen in the garden or landscape as well as making it a good choice for containers. Item# 11330
