The 10-14" high, long-lasting spikes are composed of showy deep pinkish purple bracts above while the lower smaller waxy green bracts protect the fertile yellow flowers. Flowering typically occurs in late spring to early summer and at about the same time as the new foliage emerges. The Queen Lily or Common Hidden Ginger, *Curcuma petiolata (tentatively), is a naturally clump forming, slowly spreading, root hardy, deciduous tropical with large, textured, almost canna-like, medium green foliage. This easy and reliable, low maitenance heirloom thrives in moderate sun to bright shade in a well-drained, average moist, fertile soil.
