Black Gamecock Louisiana Iris
Iris x 'Black Gamecock'

This multiple award winning Louisiana Iris produces large velvety deep purple falls and deep purple signals with a narrow golden line down the center of each one late in the season. Black Gamecock Louisiana Iris is a vigorous and understandably popular selection with excellent vigor that multiplies readily in moist to wet soils. The fans of green sword shaped foliage reaches 3-4' high on mature plants at the peak of the growing season. Provide Louisiana Irises with a moist to average moist to moderately wet site for the best results in a mostly sunny position. Black Gamecock has won the RHS Award of Garden Merit and the 1986 Mary Swords DeBallion AIS Award (the highest award exclusive only to Louisiana Iris in the AIS).
