The bright yellow and green variegated foliage of this dwarf variegated Glossy Abelia is a standout in the garden, landscape, and even as a container plant where its sunny foliage contrasts nicely with surrounding perennials and shrubs. The new growth of Francis Mason Abelia emerges an orange to coppery color and matures to a sunny yellow to gold and green. Francis Mason is a naturally dwarf to semi-dwarf, semi-evergreen to deciduous, naturally rounded shrub selected for its boldly variegated foliage and its clusters of large white tinged pink, lightly fragrant, funnel shaped flowers that begin appearing in late spring or early summer and continue into fall on new growth. Large rounded clusters of lightly fragrant soft pink flowers with a white halo surrounding a contrasting dark purple eye are produced over an extended period beginning in midsummer and lasting into fall attracting a host of pollinators including butterflies, hummingbirds, and larger bees. From a distance the bicolor flowers appear to be a blush pink. A wonderfully free-flowering Gardenia that was selected by Greg Grant from seed collected from Rosedown Plantation and named in honor of the garden's owner and horticulturist Martha Turnbull. 2-3" sweetly fragrant, white star-like single flowers are born over a long period beginning in spring and lasting through summer. Cross-pollinated flowers will produce bright orange hips to provide winter interest. Item# 9867.

Garlic Chives or Chinese Chives are similar to Society Garlic in foliage and durability but with a slightly lower growth habit and producing flat-topped clusters of white blooms from summer to fall. The nectar rich flowers are seemingly constantly abuzz with mainly smaller pollinators.The mildly garlic flavored foliage and flowers are widely utilized in Asian cuisine. Clusters of white to lilac, up to 1" wide, star-shaped, lightly fragrant flowers are produced nearly continuously throughout the warmer months of the year. The large velvety, white to gray green, large rounded tropical foliage of the Giant Milkweed make excellent fodder for Monarch caterpillars and one leaf can provide a substantial amount of food. Giant White Turk's Cap produces a seemingly endless display of 2-3" long, pendant, sleepy pure white flowers from late summer through spring where kept free from frosts and provided with ample sunlight. Gigantea is truly one of our favorites. The deep red and contrasting pure white flowers are each uniquely variegated and can range from nearly solid red to pure white and the variegation of each flower can consist of splashes, to flecks, to half red/half white flowers. Medium-sized, formal double flowers are pale pink blushing to white at the outer edges and may or may not show darker pink variegation with flowering occurring in mid to late season, January to April. The light colored flowers are held against a foil of deep green foliage. The fine dark green linear foliage is tipped with a slightly larger rounded pad and adorns fine trailing to twining stems. The Grass-Leaved Hoya, Hoya retusa, produces white waxy flowers that are centered by a nicely contrasting deep burgundy 'eye' in spring and on and off during the growing season on mature plants. The flowers are born singly and in small clusters. This unusual Hoya hails from India and its fine stems lend it to use as a hanging basket specimen, allow it to spill from containers like the 'head' pots as wild looking hair, and it can be used as a groundcover below larger plants that require similar conditions as long as there is ample bright light to keep it growing and healthy. Like most Hoyas, allow the soil to become semi-dry between waterings although this species can tolerate a little more moisture than most. Item# 12294
