Deer Resistant Plants

Dense, whorled, almost ball-like clusters are composed of deep cherry red, 2" long, tubular flowers perched atop 16-24" stems adorned in dark green foliage are produced beginning in late spring to early summer. The nectar rich flowers of Monarda attract hummingbirds, larger butterflies especially swallowtails, larger bees, and hummingbird moths. SUGAR BUZZ® Cherry Pops Beebalm, a Monarda hybrid developed from US native species, is a medium sized, upright, multi-stemmed, clump forming and slowly spreading, herbaceous perennial selected for its bright colors, midsized habit, and disease resistance. It is small enough for container culture but is sure to make a statement in a sunny cottage garden or landscape. Monarda are hardy perennials that generally prefer a moist to average moist, fertile soil, optimally in full sun with good air circulation. A new twist on an old garden favorite! The glowing golden and golden variegated new growth provide the appearance of a Forsythia but this one revels in Southern summers. An Almost Eden Exclusive introduction! 'Sunset Scentsation' Night Blooming Jasmine has proven to be a vigorous repeat blooming selection, producing waves of the famously fragrant blooms about every 6 weeks during the growing season. The tubular white to greenish-white blooms begin to release their wonderful perfume at sunset and continues through early morning. Large red berries cover the bare stems of this native deciduous shrub beginning in fall and lasting throughout much of winter and possibly into spring. Sunset Winterberry Holly develops into a medium-sized well branched shrub with a an upright to vase-shaped habit when young broadening with age. The textured deep green foliage may provide some yellow fall color prior to leaf fall if grown in full sun. Winterberry Hollies are easy to grow adaptable shrubs that produce clusters of small white flowers in spring that provide nectar and pollen for bees and other pollinators. Sunset Winterberry Holly is a female and so will need a male pollinator that flowers at the same time for maximum berry production. 'Southern Gentleman' and 'Apollo' are two males that are recommended. Provide a full to mostly sunny site in a moist acidic soil. Huge! 18'' long by up to 10'' wide, white, fragrant trumpets are borne in profusion on this free flowering tropical. Begins blooming at a very young age and makes is an excellent choice for containers. Angel's Trumpets are fast growing tropical shrubs that act-like dieback perennials in the northern parts of their range but readily return from the roots in spring. Often throughout summer, small, fragrant beautiful bell-shaped nearly white to blue flowers with gracefully recurving 'petals' (in Clematis it is the large colorful sepals that we often most enjoy) of light blue, blue, or purple. Grow the Swamp Leather Flower as a small perennial herbaceous vine that may top out at 5' but can reach 9' high. It can be cut back to 1-2' in later winter after the buds have begun to swell. Large clusters of pure white lightly fragrant flowers shine brightly against a mound of deep green glossy foliage throughout the year under warm tropical conditions. Even if it wasn't fragrant it would easily be worthy of growing for its beautiful form, foliage, and exceptional flower power. A show stopper! Tangerine Beauty Cross Vine produces a huge mass of 2" orange trumpets with yellow throats in late spring with some blooms throughout summer on well-established vines. An easily grown and vigorous clinging native evergreen vine that can easily grow up masonry, tree bark, or other structures without support.Cross Vines are a low maintenance choice for fences, posts, and large trellises. Clusters of soft yellow-orange tubular buds mature into medium orange tubular trumpet-shaped flowers that darken as they age. Flowering begins in late winter to early spring and continues cyclically throughout the growing season and finishing up in fall at the end of hummingbird season. Tangerine Princess Coral Honeysuckle, a Louisiana selection of Lonicera sempervirens, is a native, twining, deciduous, woody vine that is one of the longest flowering vines for attracting hummingbirds. An exceptionally rare species found only in 4 Texas counties, Texan Trailing Phlox is a low growing groundhugging perennial that produces clusters of deep fuchsia pink Thrift-like flowers held above the low trailing stems that are densely covered in short needle-like deep green foliage. The flowers attract butterflies large and small alike. This evergreen native perennial needs excellent drainage and is typically found growing on sandy pimple mounds. It can be used as a groundcover in the garden and landscape where soils have excellent drainage. Texan Trailing Phlox, Phlox nivalis ssp. texensis, also makes an easy and forgiving container plant with stems that can trail to 12" or more. Texas Ironweed produces clusters of rich purple, to pinkish purple, frilly flowers in summer atop fairly sturdy upright stems. This one of the smaller growing Ironweeds and can be somewhat rhizomatous but does not appear to aggressive. This is tough little drought resistant perennial that is excellent for pollinators common to well-drained soils. Texas Ironweed is shade tolerant but will perform best when grown in full sun in well-drained soils. Item# 10671.
