The largest of the Turkscaps producing up to 3" long, pendant, sleepy-hibiscus-like, deep red flowers singly and in clusters and are produced beginning in late summer and continuing through spring in warm winter climates attracting a variety of larger butterflies, hummingbirds, and larger bees. The Giant Red Turk's Cap, Malvaviscus penduliflorus, is a moderately vigorous, naturally evergreen, large, tropical shrub and may grow to 8-12' high in warm winter climates, but acts like a root hardy, die-back perennial where freezes occur, typically reaching to 3-5' by the end of the growing season. Provide a full to mostly sunny site in an average moist, fertile soil with average or better drainage. Giant White Turk's Cap produces a seemingly endless display of 2-3" long, pendant, sleepy pure white flowers from late summer through spring where kept free from frosts and provided with ample sunlight. Smooth, narrow, waxy, rich green foliage. Excellent for Hummingbirds and other long-tongued pollinators. This is a vigorous, shrub-like woody perennial that can reach 8-12' in mild winter climates and few plants can compete with the enormous amount of flowers that this plant can produce. Item# 11889.

Limelight Mexican Sage, Mexican Salvia

Salvia mexicana 'Limelight'

Tall, dense spikes composed of large, blue-purple, tubular flowers that emerge from chartreuse colored calyxes beginning and late summer and continuing into fall attracting hummingbirds, larger butterflies, and potentially some larger bees. Limelight Mexican Sage, a selection of Salvia mexicana, is a vigorous, large growing, clump-forming, herbaceous perennial adorned in large, deep green to bluish-green foliage that acts as a nice foil for the lighter colored flower spikes. Grows to about 6'H x 3-6'W by the end of the growing season. *In areas that experience hard freezes, like in zones 8 and 9, provide a breathable but insulative, preferably organic winter mulch. Mexican Whorled Milkweed, Narrowleaf Milkweed

Asclepias fascicularis, A. mexicana

2-3" wide rounded clusters of white to light rose pink flowers, sometimes with green to purple tones, are produced in late spring and summer attracting bees and other smaller pollinators. Mexican Whorled Milkweed, Asclepias fascicularis, is considered one of the better native Milkweeds for garden culture. This West Coast native, rhizomatous perennial grows to about 2-3' high and spreads to about 2-3' wide with its many stems adorned in narrow medium green foliage and are readily utilized by Monarch butterflies as a larval food source. It is highly drought resistant once fully established though plants tend to look and flower best under average moisture conditions. Mexican Whorled Milkweed is found in all West Coast states including into Idaho, Utah, and Nevada as well as into Baja Mexico. Provide a full to mostly sunny site, in a well-drained soil for optimum vigor and flowering. Naturally enters dormancy in late summer returning in spring. Caterpillar host: Queen and Monarch.
