Costa Rican Blue Salvia produces large spikes of exceptionally large bluish purple tubular flowers that emerge from darkly colored calyxes in summer and fall above the soft, somewhat bluish green foliage. Considered by some to be a selection of Salvia guaranitica, and possibly a tetraploid or hybrid, it differs in its larger more robust habit, larger flowers that start later in the summer, and its very pubescent foliage. Excellent for hummingbirds and other long tongued pollinators. Provide a full sun to part shade location in an average moist to moist acidic well-drained moderately fertile soil for optimum vigor and flowering. Item#10233

Tall dense spikes of light blue-purple tubular flowers are held above the licorice-scented deep green foliage that is neatly edged in bright white. The nectar rich flowers are produced throughout the growing season and attract a seemingly endless procession of bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. Crazy Fortune Anise Hyssop, a selection of the award winning Blue Fortune, is a clump-forming herbaceous perennial with an upright bushy habit maturing to about 2-3'H and half as wide. Huge 18-24" long spikes of deep coral-red to red-orange, 2" long pea-like flowers are produced in cycles throughout the warmer months of the year on new growth. The specialized flowers are designed for hummingbird pollination but may also be visited by larger bees and occasional butterflies. The Crybaby or Cockspur Coral Tree, Erythrina crista-galli, is considered to be one of the most cold hardy and free flowering of the Coral Trees. This is a rarely available and highly desirable fast-growing, heat and sunloving, deciduous tropical tropical tree to large shrub growing to about 15-20' high in zones 9B-10 but is typically closer to 10' high in zones 8B-9A. Once well-established, the plants are somewhat drought resistant and are slightly salt tolerant. Provide a full sun to mostly sunny site in an average moist to moist , fertile soil for optimum vigor and flowering. Protect young plants from harsh freezing temperatures until the trunk becomes woody and has grown to about 5-6" diameter if planting out in zone 8B-9A. Young plants can be overwintered indoors in a warm sunny window until they get to an appropriate size for planting out. The huge flower clusters are utilized as cutflowers in its native range and it is also the national tree of Argentina, the national flower of both Uruguay and Argentina, and is the city tree of Los Angeles as it makes a fantastic, low-maintenance street tree. A rare Angel's Trumpet that produces split petalled hanging white trumpets that are held among the very narrow, dark green, velvety foliage. The 6-8'', fragrant, pure white blooms are formed of loose petals that twist and flare out at the bottom like a petticoat. Culebra Angel's Trumpet is not as large growing as many of its cousins and so is easily maintained as a container plant. Item# 9351.

Multitudes of large showy deep rose pink, semi-double daisy-like flowers sport a nicely contrasting golden yellow eye and rise above a neat mound of deep green foliage on sturdy stems beginning in late summer and continuing into late fall. Curtain Call Deep Rose Japanese Anemone makes a wonderful specimen in containers or as part of the perennial border providing a much needed blast of color when many other perennials are beginning to fade. The flowers are followed by airy decorative fuzzy white seed heads. This is a slowly spreading rhizomatous perennial that develops into a large dense clump of foliage and flowers. The Japanese Anemones are easy low maintenance and long lived perennials that only get better with age. Dallas Red Lantana has long been popular for its profusion of flowers that open a dark orange and fade to a brilliant red. This is certainly on of the best larger growing red flowered Lantana cultivars. An excellent choice for attracting butterflies and other pollinators to your garden. Item# 9946.

The spring and summer clumps of yellow-green foliage are accented with and tipped with red and in late summer tall, 4-1/2-5-1/2' high, sturdy spikes of decorative reddish seed heads are produced. As fall approaches the foliage becomes red and then deepens into fiery scarlet. Dancing Wind Big Bluestem, a selection of Andropogon gerardii, has a slightly shorter, sturdier upright habit than the species with excellent fall color. The species is native throughout much of the eastern 2/3's of the US and is a clumping to slowly spreading rhizomatous grass whose seeds are utilized by a number of seed eating birds. Dense whorls of nectar rich, purple to dark blue-purple, tubular flowers seemingly cover up the upper most portions of the plant for weeks beginning in mid to late summer and continuing into fall. Dark Knight Bluebeard, a.k.a. Black Knight, is a vigorous and easy sunloving free-flowering clump forming shrub-like perennial that quickly develops into a dense mound of fragrant and deer resistant gray-green foliage. In zones 5-6 it tends to act more like a clump forming die-back perennial and becomes more shrub-like where winters are milder although it benefits from hard late winter or early spring pruning since it flowers on new growth. A profusion of golden orange-yellow dark eyed daisies are produced in mid to late summer and into fall atop tall sturdy stems and attract a myriad of smaller pollinators and garden beneficials. Deam's Black-Eyed Susan, Rudbeckia fulgida var. deamii, is different from Goldstrum by having a clump forming habit, slightly larger flowers, and overall taller plants with better resistance to powdery mildew. A Camellia Hall of Fame Award winner! One of the longest flowering Camellias in our garden beginning early in the season with flowers into late season.
