Fall Color + Hummingbirds (1/14/2023)
Great plant for orange "fall color" in northeast FL, really showy and different without being demanding. I have mostly breeding hummingbirds but I also always get at least one wintering one and she has used this plant a lot despite it being from Asia. I have kept it in a 1 gal container so I can pull it inside during freezes as I am not sure flowers would hold up but it at least has no problem blooming through cool, non-freezing weather unlike some plants (e.g. firebush and most porterweeds) so it's still going strong here in mid-January. If anything I think the cooler weather made it more pigmented.

I know of hummingbird gardeners in south FL who have grown these plants many years in ground so nematodes should not be an issue. With its relatively thick stems I imagine it'd be good for orioles and bonsai as well.
