Acanthaceae

King's Mantle, Bush Clock Vine

Thunbergia erecta

The 2" purple trumpets with yellow throats are held against dark-green glossy foliage. King's Mantle makes a beautiful and rewarding container specimen that flowers throughout the warmer months of the year. In mild winter climates, zones 9B and warmer, King's Mantle can be grown in the ground where it can be shaped into a beautiful hedge or allow it to grow into its naturally spreading to upright habit as a specimen plant.

Above zone 9B, King's Mantle can act like a die-back perennial if provided with good winter protection, it is often slow to recover from winter kill but will often be back to flowering by mid summer under good conditions.
