Buddlejaceae
Black Knight Butterfly Bush, Buddleja
Buddleja davidii 'Black Knight'
Showy deep violet-purple, fragrant spikes, to 8" long,
are held at the ends of the arching, woody stems. A long time favorite for it's
intense color. Black Knight Butterfly Bush is free-flowering, often blooming
from spring until fall. An excellent choice for butterflies and hummingbirds.
Butterfly Bush is considered invasive in some regions, consider sterile
selections or deadhead periodically to prevent unwanted seedlings. Some authors recommend a hard
winter pruning every 2-3 years to rejuvenate plants and to promote
longevity.
