Banana Magnolia, Banana Shrub

Magnolia figo, Michelia figo, Magnolia annonifolia, Liriodendron figo

A sweet banana-like fragrance emanates from the creamy-yellow cupped-shaped Magnolia-like blooms from spring to summer. A dense and long-lived rounded evergreen shrub with few pests or diseases. Mature plants may produce unusually shaped magnolia-like cones with seeds that mature to orange.

The Banana Magnolia can become a large shrub with age or can be kept trimmed to the appropriate height with selective pruning or can even be trained into a beautiful small, single-trunked, evergreen tree-specimen.
