Pimenta dioica, P. officinalis, Eugenia pimenta

The Allspice of cuisine, this unusual tropical trees foliage and fruit are used in cooking. The large glossy rounded foliage creates a nice foil for the fragrant white flowers which are soon followed by clusters of fruit. The wonderfully scented foliage is often used the same as Sweet Bay. Ficus carica 'Alma'

Alma, bred by the Texas ARS, produces a large crop medium to large pear shaped to rounded green fruit that ripens to yellow or bronze. The amber to pink flesh of Alma is considered to be excellent with a rich and very sweet flavor. The small eye is filled with honeydew and is highly resistant to spoiling making this a good choice for the South and Southeastern US. Alma bears fruit at a young age. Lycium barbarum 'SMNDBL'

Summer brings small purple star-shaped flowers that are born singly and in large clusters along the stems of the Goji Berry and are soon followed by the extra-large and highly nutritious bright red oblong berries in early fall that can be eaten fresh, juiced, or dried for later enjoyment. Large to very large dark purplish fruit with amber to strawberry colored flesh with good flavor is produced on a small spreading tree. Its smaller stature makes Black Jack a good choice for containers or in the ground. Mission is one of the most widely grown figs in California producing heavy crops of medium to large dark purplish-black pear-shaped fruit with a rich, sweet strawberry red pulp.
