Tangerine Beauty Cross Vine

A show stopper! Tangerine Beauty Cross Vine produces a huge mass of 2" orange trumpets with yellow throats in late spring with some blooms throughout summer on well-established vines. An easily grown and vigorous clinging native evergreen vine that can easily grow up masonry, tree bark, or other structures without support. Cross Vines are a low maintenance choice for fences, posts, and large trellises. The trumpet shaped flowers attract hummingbirds, bees and other pollinators. The unusual compound, glossy, dark green foliage takes on orange, red, bronze, and purple tones when grown in full sun during fall and winter. Item# 670.

We normally grow Cross Vines in average garden soils with good drainage, average moisture and full sun for best flowering and vigor. You can grow Crossvines on large stumps or posts, sturdy trellises, along fences where they may stretch to 30' or more, as well as up walls. Even though these are close kin to the Trumpet Creeper, Campsis radicans, Cross Vines have much better garden manners and tend to stay where you put them. They are generally evergreen but may become temporarily deciduous just before they begin growth and after the main spring flower show.

Maintenance for Cross Vines generally involves redirecting new young vines when it is being grown on low supports like a fence or trellis. In winter it is easy enough to simply remove the flexible vines from their temporary support and retrain them along the fence as well as using periodic redirection during the growing season if you notice a wayward vine. Compared to most vines the maintenance for Cross Vines is very minimal.

According to Trees, Shrubs, and Woody Vines of Louisiana by Dr. Charles M. Allen etal. the Cross Vine is also known as: Trumpet Flower, Tendriled Trumpet Creeper, Smoke Vine, and Quarter Vine.

Grows To: 30-50'H, easily trained to a 6'H fence or other support.
